Homage
For solo piano
Duration: 10 minutes
Notes:
Of all the piano pieces I have written thus far, Homage is certainly the most autobiographical. It pays homage to the most important mentors in my musical life, including composers— living and gone— who certainly are the most powerful coaches and confidants. On a personal level, it acknowledges the pianist I would like to be and the self-sustaining energy of my compositional life. This piece began as an improvisation and took many months to craft thereafter. I wanted the piece to contain all the elements that I love in piano writing: hearty chords, brisk virtuosity, romantic phrases, innate rhythmic passages, terror and joy.
