Kinetikos
For piano and orchestra
(2021)
The recording to the left is the first movement of this three-movement piece for orchestra and solo piano.
Kinetikos, meaning “of motion,” was birthed from the final piano cadenza moment of this movement. This initial sketch of piano writing felt visceral, and turned into a piece meant to embody snippets of the many genres that form my musical vision. Although I mean for Kinetikos to be paired literally with movement on stage, the title is also meant to encapsulate a subtle flexibility between musical styles— gestures that move from Glass-type textures, to Latin dance accents, and influences of the solo piano canon.
As a whole, Kinetikos is propelled by rhythm and the vision of bodies on stage.
